Essence of the trip:
The ultimate desert expedition, taking you through the Western Desert, an area of the Sahara that is so inaccessible and inhospitable it is yet to be fully explored. Travelling by desert-adapted 4×4, you’ll battle across the endless landscapes of the ‘Great Dune Sea’ on a journey that will take you to areas that virtually no-one other than nomadic Bedouin people have ever visited before.
This trip will give you:
The chance to explore one of the last true desert wildernesses on Earth and travel through areas of the Sahara that remain largely unmapped.
Insight into the unique culture and way of life of the nomadic Bedouin people, the only people who have ever managed to permanently dwell within this totally unforgiving environment.
An amazing 4×4 borne adventure, where you will cover vast swathes of rolling desert and endless dunes in an area incredible raw beauty.
The opportunity to see 10,000 year-old Neolithic rock paintings, as well as some of the most incredible star-gazing imaginable thanks to the complete lack of light pollution in the remote regions of the Sahara.
After landing in Cairo, you’ll meet both your expert guiding team and the desert-adapted 4x4s that will provide your passage into the heart of the Sahara, before covering hundreds of kilometers to the Bir El Ghaba hot spring. Here you will be able to enjoy a relaxing swim, before setting up camp for your first night under the startling clear night sky.
The following morning you will continue towards the White Desert, passing the spectacular Crystal Mountain en route, before enjoy an open fire dinner and a second night under canvas at El Akabat. After a refreshing swim the next morning at Magic Spring, you’ll continue your journey passage through the vast, empty landscapes of the desert to the edge of the Great Sand Sea, where you will set up camp in a place of seemingly infinite space and silence.
Over the course of the next few days you are highly unlikely to see another living soul, aside from nomadic Bedouin tribes, who will you be able to gain an amazing insight from. The chance to understand the unique culture and way of life that allows the nomads to survive within the unrelenting heat of the Sahara will undoubtedly provide a highlight of your trip and you’ll follow many of their customs and eat traditional Bedu food throughout your time in the desert.
Sleeping under the stars each night using a simple mattress and sleeping bag and journeying through the eerie quietness of the vast desert that stretches into the horizon by day, you’ll have an unsurpassed opportunity to absorb the unique history and landscapes of the region. From the lunar-like Clayton Craters or the ancient rocks of Karkur Talh to the Neolithic prehistoric paintings, this is a journey like no other and will culminate at the Siwa Oasis, where you’ll follow in the tracks of Alexander the Great at the end of a road trip of truly epic proportions.
